Dances of Universal Peace

Dance on the music of mantra's and songs from all religious traditions.

The music we sing ourselves, sometimes supported by live music.

Difficult? No. Uplifting and inspiring? For sure.
Dances of Universal Peace are usually done in a circle. Often ancient phrases are sung, sometimes new inspired texts. The combination of singing and music gives a deep experience of the meaning of the mantra. The movements can be meditative, quiet, or fast, giving energy, or grounding.
Before each dance the music, text and movements are clearly taught. You don't need any experience to join, just an open mind.

Samuel Lewis, the founder of the dances, was not only a Zen master and Sufiteacher, he was also the cofounder of an esoterical Christian order, studied the Kabbalah (having a Jewish background) and regularly visited his Hindu guru, Papa Ramdas. You might say he was the embodiment of the Unity of religions. In his seventies, after a fruitful life as a spiritual teacher, he started to teach dances. He was deeply inspired by his teachers Hazrat Inayat Khan, a Sufi mystic who came to the West, and Ruth St.Denis, who was a dance pioneer. He saw the dances as an important tool to create peace. His motto: "eat, dance and pray together". What started as a local movement in California, with about 20 dances, grew out to a worldwide family, with more than 500 dances on their repertoire.

from 13-15-5, I, Renée, will give a workshop for both beginners and those who are already on the path of dancing, Finding our home in the breath

I can also offer a few dances as an enrichment of your stay, or as a form of meditation for your group. Or come to you and your friends and lead dances for a day or a weekend. Contact me for more information.
